Traveling - What's Your Most Memorable Trip?

I guess I would have to say that my most memorable trip was to Austria - primarily around teh country by car and/or train. I loved the beauty and the people!!

September 1, 2008 - Labor Day

Hello, Classmates!!
    I have decided to try a blog on this website with the hope that we might use the medium to communicate about a variety of things. We can leave this set up so that new entries have to be set up by me and responses can be made without approval. Let Mary Lee, Larry or Raylene know what you think.
    I believe in open discussion, but flaming others or extreme political or religious views have no place on this blog IMHO.
    So, I hope you are enjoying Labor Day by not laboring, and I shall hope to see others wriring here soon!!

     First of all I think the Blog is a great idea. It will be a great way to communicate now that our "Golden Years" are upon us.
     I spent midweek in KC playing golf with some friends. After the others left for their respective homes I stayed over and had dinner with Vyck and Pat Shanes. Vyck hasn't been up to parr lately health wise, However we had a very nice evening with some very pleasant conversation.
     My Mother, Helen Forsythe, celebrated her "95th" Birthday on May 8th. She was really pleased with cards she recieved from you who were in 5th grade class at Hathorne. I arranged a surprise party which really Surprised her.......................Charlie

Hi Steve..
I will have to say this is a new experience for me..I am not a "blogger" but more than willing to try new things.

I have had quite a summer of "NEW" adventures. It has been one of dreams comming true, starting with my trip to Ireland (thanks to my mom). I still can hardly believe I was REALLY there.

Then John and I took a bus trip (tour) of the Canadian Rockies and that was FILLED with a lot of adventures.

I hope others will jump in and give this a try. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Right??

hi all..i have never done this but think it is a great idea. thanks steve or anyone else for doing this.....my life is rather boring. i had a stroke 2 years ago and still not fully recovered..then my sister died and then we had to put my dog down..now i have lost my job....BUT MY FAITH IN GOD IS STILL INTACT. so that is a good thing. I hope none of you

Hi Everyone~ This blogging seems like it should work out pretty well, keeping everyone updated on the latest goings on! My husband and I have just acquired our first RV, it is a 2006 Roadtrek RS Adventurous. We bought it used with 10,600 miles. We just came back from our first trip and realized we made a great deal! It will serve our purpose very well right now. We have been looking for one for a couple years and found the right one in Mississipi this July. We look forward to doing a lot of traveling since my husband has been retired. He is originally from Ga. and has worked for the last 41 years of his life (except for the last two he's been retired) and has not done a lot of traveling. We are excited for the opportunity!

Ottawa lost another great guy Tuesday. Walt Butler passed away at the age of 92. You can read about him at www.dengelmortuary.com

I know Walt made it possible for a lot of us to have an instrament to play so we could be in band. But my mom and I made a lot visits to Butlers way before I decided I wanted to play the flute so I could be in band (that decision was made easy, because that was what Lurray was playing,and we ALWAYS did everything together ha).
We (Lulu & I ) started taking piano lessons from Louise Welborn when we were 5, so a lot of sheet music was purchased at his store over the years.

Walt always had a warm greeting and a lot of kidding around. There will never be another "Music Man" like Walt..

I'll put the entire obit up of Walt this weekend. I used to deal with Walt Butler a lot when I was growing up. He was even my scoutmaster for awhile!! Always fun and always helpful. I saw that Rex had died - I think he used to play tuba in the band although was several years ahead of me in school.

Sounds like blogging is new to most of us, it sure is for me. We use the internet and email for many things but blogging has been off our radar. But Steve, it looks like a very good idea.

We were sorry not to make it to the 45th but we committed for a trip to New Zealand and Australia and that took precedence. We had a great time "down under" especially in NZ. I think we could live there, only 2-million people and most of them are in two cities leaving a lot of the country the size of California available for tourists like us. The mountains and seashores are very beautiful.

We are making plans to be at the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque in early October, travelling in our 5th wheel trailer. We hope to connect with Tom Laury while we are there. We also manage to stay nin touch with Richard Loper (some of you may remember him even though his family moved to Goodland, KS before he finished high school). Richard has a successful range management and consulting business in Lander, WY. We really like to visit there on our travels.

We don't get to Ottawa so often now since my brother moved to Meade, KS.
Enough of this gossip for now.

Traveling is a good topic for discussion. We have done some but just getting things arranged here on the farm so we can do more going and less work around here.

Has anyone been to Brazil or Argentina? We are looking for advice on good tour companies that go there and what to expect from them and from a trip to either of those two places.

John just mentioned the other day that he was thinking that might be our next trip. Tho I am thinking IT IS A JUNGLE THERE AND THEY HAVE REALLY BIG SNAKES>>

Remember now I am trying to become more adventerous but not sure I am ready for that.. I knew he had Austrailia on his list (and Walter is New Zeland really the place to spend more time when doing both?) anyway I am still Praising the Lord for making the trip to Ireland with my mom and sister a reality. Now that I have been there it will be hard to top that trip with anything else.
and they DON'T have snakes, ticks, mosquitos, poisionous spiders, poison ivy or lots of other bad things. Now THERE is a place I could move to and die happy(ier)...

I won't be able to travel for quite some time as I'll be having sugery on my cervical spine next Monday to replace a disintegrating disk. This is the second round of this kind of surgery - just a different disk this time - and I'm not looking forward to it one little bit!! The upside is that after I recovered from the first surgery, I was able to golf again and swim and snorkel - got my life back!

Sorry I couldn't make it to the reunion. Bill's mother had some serious health issues and we had to use our travel time to go back East. ...and then, for a number of reasons, we rented a house in Phoenix for six months last summer, and that's when I got lost I guess. (I swear that people are going to think that we're in the witness protection program - we move so much.) But we're back in Rio Rico, Arizona.

I'm still working for IBM as a proposal manager; but at the moment I'm on leave of absence. If this goes anything like last time, I probably won't go back to work until after the first of the year.

Thanks to Larry for being so peristent in trying to stay in touch. I'll check out the Blog as soon as I shed my neck brace.

Oh! One more favor please...? I've lost Mary Evelyn Bundy's phone number. If you can please send that along too?

HI EVERYONE, THINKING OFYOU SUELLEN ON MON. PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU. MY OLDEST GRANDDAUGHTER, AUBREY IS GETTING MARRIED FRIDAY THE 26TH. SHOULD BE FUN.SHE IS MY DAUGHTER CHRISTY'S (#3). MY 2ND DAUGHTER, MINDY'S DAUGHTER MEGAN AND HER TWIN GIRLS AND SON AND HUSBAND ARE DOWN FROM WASH. FOR THE WEDDING. 7 OF MY KIDS AND THEIR FAMILIES WILL BE HERE! I'M SO THRILLED.

hey everybody--wishing all a merry christmas and a super great new year....we made a trip to decatur illinois for my husbands 59 reunion...had a nice time....
